Adoration

Dear Parishioners,

This past September we initiated all day adoration at St. Mary’s Church. Every Friday from 9am-8 pm the church is open and Jesus is placed on the altar. Everyone is welcome to come and pray to Our Lord. You can come for a short time or a long time. You can come with your family or alone. The details make no difference. The important part is to come and be with Jesus.

However, I recognize that a lot of people have never actually prayed in this way before. Adoration may be different than what you grew up with, are used to, and for some, you might not even know what I’m talking about when I say the word “Adoration.” You just haven’t seen it before.

To help with that, over the next few weeks I’d like to dedicate these pages to explaining what adoration is, why we do it, and why I think it can transform your relationship with Jesus Christ. But before that, I need you to do something. On a Friday, visit the church. Just walk right in, the doors will be open. Then you will at least see what I am talking about. Of course there is a lot that you will not see. God is invisible and our communication with him is mysterious. But if we work at this together, we will deepen our relationship with the one whom St. Augustine said, “our hearts are restless until they rest in [him].”

God Bless,

Fr. David
